About
The Oxford Israeli Cultural Society was set up because we love Israeli culture and we think that you will too. Through creative and innovative events that stand out in Oxford and give you the chance to experience things that you will enjoy, we hope to reflect the modern, diverse, vibrant and youthful character of Israel. The Oxford Israeli Cultural Society will bring a little piece of Israel to the heart of Oxford.
So what's the deal with iFest 08?
Since it's Israel's 60th Birthday this year, we thought we would have a little bit of a party and also take the time to look at what aspects of Israeli culture are really worth celebrating. And because we're doing this in Oxford and not in Israel, we have focused on Israel's contributions to the world and to your lives.
60 years isn't long, but Israel has achieved a lot. Israeli innovations such as the invention of voicemail and instant messenger (ICQ) have gone hand-in-hand with the 21st Century technological revolution. Israeli treatments are at the forefront of combating diseases such as Alzheimer's and cancer. On the ground environmental strategies to Israelis environmental challenges are being applied for the benefit of all of mankind. Israeli contributions to music, art, film, literature and food are broadening horizons and are allowing you to enjoy the good things in life just a bit more.
We have tried our best to reflect this in iFest 08. Ideally, we would just take you on holiday there. There is nothing than can substitute the spirituality of Jerusalem, the fun of Tel Aviv or the beauty of the Negev Desert or the Galilee. But just come to iFest 08 to get a little taster...
B'Shalom ('In peace')
